As a photographer, I feel as if I spend a lot of time trying to perfect my technique so as to mask my lack of an artistic sense and sensibility. I often find lots of photographers with immaculate (and enviable) technical skills that can wow me for a several images and then leave me feeling empty because much of the imagery is beautiful shallow eye-candy. I live in the fear that no matter how much work I put into my photography, that at best, that is my destiny.
Looking through Duncan’s work I couldn’t help but think that he’s purposely playing with making a lot of his photos to “look” less technically savvy than they really are. His shots are pure soul and heart, and this non-technical approach only adds to this effect. Unfortunately for many of the rest of us (photographers not viewers), this can neither be taught or learned.

All I can say is ‘WOW’. To me photography is still about capturing an image of ‘something’ that catches my fancy. To you, clearly, photography is much more than that it is a vehicle for expressing your thoughts, emotions and feelings… an art form. I have a lot to learn.

I think you also have a unique style of photography and way of looking at what someone else might pass over in an new way.
You have a gift for capturing spontaneous expressions and moments.

I’ll keep looking forward to your works, which call for a longstanding view, as there is something “hidden” inside them, much more than the “graphic window”.

Excellent site, William. I enjoyed my visit.
Duncan has been my photography teacher, with very few words, for years. He showed me the difference between a picture and a photograph. You can call me a Duncan groupie..
